Sunday Jun 27, 2021
Sunday Jun 27, 2021
The most majestic theatre in tennis returns and the guys are living for it.
After a few weeks of grass warm-ups and new grass court winners emerging (Humbert, Jabeur, Berretini, Ostapenko, De Minaur and Medvedev to name a handful), Aldwin & Jason review their picks for who's in form and who can make a deep run. Who's eyeing a 'Kanepi' moment and who's so 'Cuckoo for Coco Gauff' that she's their pick to win the title?
One thing the guys agree on is the chances of Novak Djokovic to achieve his 20th grand slam trophy (tying Fed and Rafa) and keeping his Golden Slam chances on track heading into the Olympic games.
Aldwin & Jason share their excitement about returning to GLTA tournament play in Montreal over Labour Day weekend and upcoming events in Vancouver during the August long weekend.

Real Tennis T with Rebecca Marino
Wednesday Jun 23, 2021
Wednesday Jun 23, 2021
Newer tennis fans may be unfamiliar with the story of Rebecca Marino. Her return to the sport after retiring at the age of 22 was unexpected, yet certainly inspiring to many, especially after her very public declarations about her struggles living with depression. The timing of her visit to the Ready Play Tennis Podcast is serendipitous in light of the renewed focus on mental health in the sport.
Rebecca talks about her choice of pro-tennis over a full college scholarship, her early career success including playing the biggest court in the world against than #4 Venus Williams and her own rise to #38 in the world. She shares her experience living with depression that led to her retirement from tennis, and offers some insights and perspective to support Naomi Osaka in her current journey.
The guys ask about her goals for the 2021 season and beyond, and get into the ever popular 'Changeover' game... it turns out Rebecca has her own little game she plays on court during her match changeovers.
Get to know a little bit more about this reemerging Canadian tennis star now veteran with wonderful personality and renewed appreciation for her sport.

Djokovic is Snatching That G.O.A.T. Status
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
The guys recap and epic French Open that has left them both worn out.
Expect the unexpected sums up the results for the women as Barbora Krejcikova builds off her Strasbourg win to take her first Grand Slam singles title... she took the doubles title to boot, becoming the first player since Mary Pierce in 2000 to achieve that feat. Aldwin and Jason break down the semis and what's next for players like Gauff, Sakkari and Pavlyuchenkova after their deepest slam runs yet.
On the men's side Novak Djokovic is further snatching that G.O.A.T. status by completing the epic feat of out Rafa'ing Rafa Nadal in the semis, which featured one of the best sets of tennis ever played in the 3rd. Adding a flare for the dramatic, Djokovic would lose the first two sets to first time finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas, only to regain momentum early in the third set and never look back.
The guys review what makes Djokovic so good, what brings him so much hate, and his chances to surpass Rafa and Roger for most slams in 2021 as he works towards the Golden Slam (including the potential Olympic Gold in Tokyo).

When Your French Open QF Predictions Suck
Wednesday Jun 09, 2021
Wednesday Jun 09, 2021
After the excitement of making QF predictions last week, Aldwin and Jason are left wondering whether they still deserve their podcast platform... their predictions truly sucked.
Not surprisingly (because it's WTA) the guys correctly name just one of the ladies QF contenders... they are surprised however to learn their pick was not the same, but each remains their pick to win the title. With a Barty withdrawal and early exits from Sabalenka and Serena, the field is wide open. The guys also reflect on the follow out and focus on mental health brought about by the 2nd round withdrawal of Naomi Osaka.
With the men's quarterfinalists more true to form, will there be any changes to the guys picks? Medvedev enjoyed his pizza enough to finally win not just one, but four matches to reach his first FO quarter... and Federer's withdrawal before the fourth round has the guys annoyed.
Are the poor results of the Canadian contingent at Roland Garros a minor blip or cause for concern?

Casper's Gotta Girlfriend... How Ruud!
Wednesday May 26, 2021
Wednesday May 26, 2021
The stupidity ends in Ontario as outdoor tennis returns... Aldwin and Jason share their excitement booking all the court time and their 2021 tennis goals.
'The Chessmaster' Daniil Medvedev warms up for the French Open at this week's Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS)... but someone forget to give him the memo that it's on clay... where he is indeed not 'The Chessmaster'. Other players are there.
Early exits for greats Serena and Roger at their respective 250 events in Parma and Geneva leave question marks on their prospects for the French Open.
In the week's biggest and perhaps saddest news for all thirsty gay tennis fans... Casper Ruud's gotta girlfriend! She was on hand as Casper raised his second title in Geneva following his take down of Denis Shapovalov, now out of FO with a shoulder injury.
Tsitsipas earns his 7th title in Lyon as Aldwin reveals he's moved on to a new tennis star. The guys sing the praises of the UK's Cam Norrie, who makes his second ATP tournament final.
Spain's Badosa and Cuckoo for Coco Gauff take titles in Belgrade and Parma, with the later also taking the doubles crown. Gauff moves to a career high #25 in the world.
Jason quizzes Aldwin on the state of American tennis, and Aldwin's challenged to name which of the country's current players reside in the Top 50.

Get Daniil and Naomi a Margherita
Wednesday May 19, 2021
Wednesday May 19, 2021
After catching up in person for the first time in months (and seeing those empty tennis courts), the guys reviewed the results in Rome.
They offer up the freshest of therapy ideas to their faves Daniil and Naomi: relax and reflect on those clay court woes with a delicious Margherita... yummy sauce, mozzarella and fresh basil always does the trick!
Aldwin and Jason discuss the winning ways of Iga and Rafa, including the two delicious bagels served up to three-time finalist Pliskova, and the post victory photo with the singles winners that was all 'calf'.
Honourable mentions to talented local favourite Lorenzo Sonego and American Reilly Opelka on their first Masters semi-final. Questions marks linger as Barty and Halep retire in their matches with injury. Will the in-form Barty and clay court fave Halep be ready in time for the French Open?
Aldwin offers his second apology in as many episodes... this week it's Shapo and his 'Midnight Life'.
